Tokyo-born schoolboy Yukitaka Tsutsui is moving to Yamagata Prefecture for high school on a baseball scholarship, much to the delight of the local star power-starved baseball fans. When he arrives in his apartment, he encounters a strange man nonchalantly reading and wearing his clothes! The stranger claims to be an alien who crash-landed on Earth and has nowhere to go. Although later episodes get increasingly more surreal in depicting fictional places, the first few episodes depict Yamagata rather bluntly. Some stylized photographs in the ED also depict Yamagata landmarks. A brief shot in Episode 4 shows the Kabukicho sign. Level E is mostly known for being one of Togashi Yoshihiro‘s lesser known manga, and character silhouettes and creative ideas that would reappear for Hunter x Hunter are the most obvious in the Color Ranger episodes.
