A Place Further Than the Universe

Mari Tamaki has always dreamt of what lies beyond the reaches of the universe. Her fear continues to prevent her from taking that ambitious step forward—that is, until she has a chance encounter with a girl who has grand dreams of her own. Spurred by her mother’s disappearance, Shirase Kobuchizawa has been working hard to fund her trip to Antarctica. Inspired by Shirase’s resolve, Mari jumps at the chance to join her. Soon, their efforts attract the attention of the bubbly Hinata Miyake, who is eager to stand out, and Yuzuki Shiraishi, a polite girl from a high class background. Together, they set sail toward the frozen south. (Adapted from MAL)

The girls live in Tatebayashi, Gunma Prefecture. On January 28, 2021, they were announced as Tatebayashi’s ‘anime ambassadors’. A large amount of promotional material was produced, including standees, notebooks, and posters. Some public commuter vans recieved YoriMoi-themed wraps. While departing, the crew stops in Singapore, Perth, and Fremantle, where the Shirase is docked, before making their way by sea to Showa Station. Cafe de Staël closed due to its owner’s failing health.

This key visual below was produced to cross-promote the series and Tatebayashi by situating the cast in front of the shelter at Tsutsujigaoka Park.

A seichijunrei fan notebook located inside the shelter.

This ‘fan shrine’ of sorts and an ATA plaque are located inside Tsutsujigaoka Fureai Center.

The icebreaker AGB-5003 Shirase is a very real vessel and is featured prominently. It is Japan’s fourth icebreaker put into service for making antarctic expeditions and is operated by the JMSDF.

glasses2910 on Hatena Blog made a tour out of the locations featured in Australia, and was able to take a trip aboard the Shirase.
