Being the latest lengthy installment in Inio Asano’s larger body of work, the manga for Dead Dead Demon’s continued in the tradition of Asano’s striking direction for paneling and backgrounds, with frequent use of photographs that have been digitally altered and drawn over. The realness of these locations was highlighted in the anime by situating illustrations of the characters directly over some unchanged photographs depicting manga background spots, now in full color.
