Mirai Kuriyama is the sole survivor of a clan of Spirit World warriors tasked with hunting down and killing “Youmu”—creatures said to be the manifestation of negative human emotions. Akihito Kanbara is a high school student who is half-Youmu and a has peculiar regenerative ability that makes him nearly invincible. Akihito must convince Mirai to target other Youmu to avoid becoming target practice and to prepare her to stop a coming greater evil.
With no surprise given the pedigree of Kyoto Animation, Beyond the Boundary depicts a very true-to-life Nara, ignoring the obvious fantastical elements. The school is in the more-southern Kashihara region, and there are another cluster of pins in downtown Nara proper.
